Trek Unveils Trek Connect Online Ordering

AR5Q1477

In a first for a major U.S. bike brand, Trek Bicycle will begin sales of complete bikes to consumers via its website in late September. Bikes will be shipped to Route 31 Bike, Board & Ski— not direct to consumers — for assembly.

Trek also will begin online sales of parts & accessories from its own brands, including Bontrager and Electra, as well as other bike brands including Park Tool, Garmin, Finish Line and Burley. Trek will deliver these products direct to consumers.

Now Stocking Electra Bikes

electra crusier

This is the bike that started it all. 21 years ago we launched the company on the idea that we could improve on an American classic. So we opened up the frame geometry, moved the pedals forward, relaxed the seat angle and gave the entire body some breathing room. The result was a less clunky, more ergonomic ride that features our patented Flat Foot Technology®. And then we dialed it in with our signature Electra style and attention to detail. 21 years later, our Cruiser collection is all grown up. Choose between an alloy or steel frame, single or multiple gears, and a variety of styles and accessories that let your true self shine.

With so many colors and personalities to consider, you’ll want to be sure to notice the brand new Ladies’ Fashion models and Men’s Attitude bikes. They’re pretty sweet. Once you’ve decided on your bike, check out Electra apparel and accessories on electrabike.com for more ways to customize your ride.

Mount Davis Challenge Bicycle Road Race

Course map of the Mount Davis Challange

The Mt. Davis Challenge Bicycle Road Race is a 42-mile race that traverses the highest point in Pennsylvania, Mt. Davis. The course is lollipop style that starts in Confluence, PA and utilizes the hilly back roads of the Mt. Davis area and climbs to an elevation of 3,213ft. Once over the top it descends on the eastern side and climbs back up on Savage Road before returning to Confluence. Prolonged climbs and fast descents on some rough road surfaces make this a true challenge. A portion of the race proceeds will benefit the Confluence Creative Arts Center.

What’s a 29er?

Although around since the '90's, lately there has been an upsurge in interest in 29er (or two-niner) mountain bikes. So, exactly what is a 29er?

Most mountain bikes use what is commonly called a 26 inch wheel which technically is an ISO 559 mm wheels. A 29er uses an ISO 622 mm wheel which is often used for road-racing, trekking, touring and cyclo-cross. For those of you adept at converting millimeters to inches, note that the 26" and 29" refers to the outside diameter of the wheel with the tire mounted.

So, what does a larger diameter tire do for you on the trail? A higher "attack angle" and increased momentum allows the tire to roll over obstacles and rough trails easier, smoothing out the ride and reducing the energy you expend. The larger tire also has a greater area of rubber in contact with the trail which improves traction and control especially when climbing or turning. Riders also report a feeling of increased stability.

Since there is no free lunch, what is the downside of a 29er? The larger wheels require slightly more engery to start rolling and to turn. In addition shorter riders (5'5") often have a hard time getting a good fitting bike due to the larger wheels.

Route 31 Bike, Board & Ski currently stocks two models of 29ers. Both are entry level sport hardtail bikes featuring Alpha Gold Aluminum frames in the Genesis 2 configuration and mechanical disk brakes. The frame and fork geometry create a bike that is nimble in tight, twisty trails without compromising high-speed stability. The Gary Fisher Wahoo has an MSRP of $599.99 and it's bigger brother the Marlin comes in at $679.99. Upgrades from the Wahoo to the Marlin include suspension fork lockouts and upgraded rims, derailleur and stem.
